The November Meeting of The Maker's Space-paper marbling and word collage

Image
For the November meeting of The Maker's Space, we had a time of meditation on gratefulness.  We then started cutting out words of things that we were grateful for from old books for a word collage. While that was going on, we learned the technique of Sam ink paper marbling.  It can be found on Youtube @https://youtu.be/12dSRw5Wzq4 We used our newly marbled papers as backgrounds for the word collage that can be used during our prayer and meditation times to bring us out of a time of self-focus into a grateful focus for the abundant gifts we have been given and are still being given.  It was a tranquil time of reflection and meditation and learning how to manipulate ink on a still body of water.  The two hours of art flew by and refreshed all who took time out to come.

Creating Art for the Haymarket November Fundraiser

The Maker's Space and Purpose By Design came together with clients from Haymarket who seek treatment from addictions and sex trafficking .  They made Wax Hand art from www.waxedhands.com, letting their hands tell part of the story of the journey toward recovery.  Their narratives and hand art brought messages of "hope", "holding on", "mother", "peace", "one way", "strength", "moving toward the light", "stop". "another direction"...one client chose the symbol of "rock and roll" because that is what started her down this road to addiction.  Another client chose a bloody hand which represented "the many times she should have died but reached out for the hand of Jesus."  Who knew hands could say so much.  These hands will be used in centerpieces to represent the clients at the November 17th Haymarket Fundraiser.  All of the clients will be getting their art after the fundraiser...

The October meeting of The Maker's Space explored the concept of FORGIVENESS as it relates to ourselves and how we contribute to the civility of the current climate of society. As we slowed down and noticed the how loved we are by God and what was coming between us fully feeling being surrounded in love, we were able to ask for forgiveness of letting those things get in the way of God's love.  Art slows us down to notice.  We then completed gluing one side of our box with various pieces that represented us.  The four sides of the box could represent the four sides of us, physical, social, emotional, and mental.  Or the four sides could represent four phases of our lives. Next, we slowed down enough to notice if there was someone in our life that has hurt us.  A hurt that we were carrying around with us, that is not healthy, and we don't need to carry.  Past hurts, disappointments, or things we should have received from someone but didn't.  We were t...
