Creative Prayer- Conversing with God using art
Why pray? "First, God. God is the subject of life. God is foundational for living. If we don't have a sense of the primacy of God, we will never get it right, get life right, get our lives right. Not God at the margins; not God as an option; not God on the weekends. God at center and circumference; God first and last. Having a conversation with God may be less about you and more about God. Your focus may shift away from yourself and toward your creator. If you have a friend who constantly asks you for things but never really wants to listen to you, how deep can your relationship go? Sometimes we forget that God has a personality and a creative side to Him, and wants to engage us at a deeper level. Let prayer be a time to savor. Look forward to spending time with God, using art as a tool to slow down and be with God. Allow this to be a time in which God speaks to you and you actively seek Him. An audible voice may not come booming out of the clouds, but many things will be revealed to you through this process, about God, about reality and about you."
In this season's sessions of Creative Prayer, we will be exploring different kinds of prayer using different mediums of art. You do not have to be an expert in prayer, or an expert in art. We are tapping into our creative natures because we were made by a very creative God. We will get to know His creative side which He loves to use to reach out to us. If we try to forget our fear of ourselves and try something new, we may just discover something fresh that helps us grow. And isn't that the goal? To grow?
Please RSVP to 2013themakersspace@gmail.com so that we will have enough supplies. All workshops are free and are funded by donations and sales of paintings on The Maker's Space Marketplace which can be found @www.inspiredcreations.us
If you can't come to our in person workshops, all sessions will be here for you to do on your own using simple art supplies. I encourage you to try these on your own, to give you a new perspective on prayer and a new and fresh way to pray often without words. We will be exploring prayers of thanksgiving, praise, lament, meditation, and contemplation to name a few.
The October session of The Maker's Space will have a time of creating and listening to what's on your heart and hearing what is on the heart of God. We will explore two kinds of prayer, lament and praise and water based painting with pen and ink mediums. The importance is on the process not necessarily on the end product, although the art continues to speak long after the session is over. Come and explore how art can be a way to come out of the busyness of life and to hear purpose and validation of how much the Creator loves you.
